Small groups are taking a break for the summer, but check back with us in September!
Crosswinds sermon-based small groups are groups of up to 12 people who gather once a week to engage in sermon-based Bible study, prayer, and life together, forming communities of faith where people help each other live the life of freedom, fullness, and faithfulness found only in Jesus Christ.
Small groups are currently meeting in Canandaigua, Farmington, Victor, Bloomfield, and Penn Yan, and we are eager to scatter into more towns within the Finger Lakes region!
What is a sermon-based Bible study?
A sermon-based Bible study is a small group of people who build community together while focusing on reviewing the previous weekend’s sermon. But it’s more than just a rehash of the sermon; the goal of sermon-based Bible study is to take a main point from the sermon and dig deeper into Scripture and its application.
Do all Crosswinds sermon-based small groups use sermon-based Bible study?
Yes. We believe there is great value in the unity that develops when all of our sermon-based small groups engage in the same material each week.
Is there a discussion guide each week?
Yes! You’ll need a small group discussion guide before your group meets each week. Feel free to use these guides during the sermon to prepare for the discussion. You can get a small group discussion guide each week the following ways:
- An usher will give you one as you enter the Worship Center before all of our weekend services.
- Download a PDF copy from our website HERE.
- Access it through our free App.
How long do groups last?
Small groups meet for three sessions a year (fall, winter, and spring) that typically last 12 weeks. At the end of each session, you will have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group, or even taking a break. Small groups don’t meet in the summer, but often such strong community is formed that groups will meet for social gatherings anyway!
When and where do groups meet?
Small groups meet at various times throughout the week in homes all over the Finger Lakes region. Crosswinds will be continually starting new groups so the availability and location of groups will continue to increase.
2017/2018 Session Schedule
Fall: September 24 – December 16
What about childcare?
Childcare options are determined by each individual group. When you sign up for a small group, you will be contacted by the small group leader and they’ll let you know if childcare is available or if you’ll need to arrange for your own childcare.
I’m interested in leading a small group. What should I do?
We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the blessing of being connected in a small group. New groups need new leaders, so thanks for your interest! Your first step is to complete our online small group leader application by clicking HERE. Once completed, someone from our Community Life ministry team will be in touch with you.
I’m interested in hosting a small group. What should I do?
We want to see small groups gather in homes all throughout the Finger Lakes region, and that won’t happen without hosts like you. Your first step is to complete our online small group host application by clicking HERE. Once completed, someone from our Community Life ministry team will be in touch with you.
Wait . . . what’s the difference between leading and hosting?
Good question! We make every effort to care for and equip the ministry partners here at Crosswinds. One way we do that with small groups is by dividing the role of leader and host. A small group leader facilitates discussion, guides the group gatherings throughout the year, and is the point person between the group and Community Life pastor. A small group host opens up their home for a group and provides a safe, clean environment for the weekly gatherings.
