Crosswinds sermon-based small groups are groups of up to 12 people who gather once every other week in homes throughout our region to experience relational growth with God and each other by engaging in sermon-based Bible study, prayer, and life together.

We currently have small groups gathering in Canandaigua, Farmington, Victor, Bloomfield, and Penn Yan, and we are eager to scatter into more communities within the Finger Lakes Region!

Small Groups begin gathering again the week of September 23rd, 2018. Keep reading to learn about what our small groups are all about and how to get invovled.

What is a sermon-based Bible study?

A sermon-based Bible study is a small group of people who build community together while focusing on reviewing the previous weekend’s sermon. But it’s more than just a rehash of the sermon; the goal of sermon-based Bible study is to take a main point from the sermon and dig deeper into God’s Word and journey together to apply it to our lives.

Do all Crosswinds sermon-based small groups use sermon-based Bible study?

Yes. We believe there is great value in the unity that develops when all of our sermon-based small groups engage in the same material when they gather every other week.

Is there a discussion guide each week?

Yes! You’ll need a small group discussion guide before your group meets each week. Feel free to use these guides during the sermon to prepare for the discussion. The easiest way to access the discussion guide is with our free app available on Apple and Android devices. Simply search your app store for Crosswinds Wesleyan Church. You can also get the questions in the following ways:

  1. Use our Crosswinds App – The weekly discussion guide is available right through the app!
  2. Download a PDF copy from our website HERE.

How long do groups last?

Small groups meet every other week from September to June. Most small group gatherings last around two hours. All small groups take a break during the summer months. When they kickoff again each fall, you can choose to rejoin the same group or check out a new one.

When and where do groups meet?

Small groups meet at various times throughout the week in homes all over the Finger Lakes region. Crosswinds will be continually starting new groups so the availability and location of groups will continue to increase.

2018/2019 Session Schedule
Every other week beginning the week of September 23rd, 2018 and breaking for summer the week of June 23rd, 2019

What about childcare?

Childcare options are determined by each individual group. When you sign up for a small group, you will be contacted by the small group leader and they’ll let you know if childcare is available or if you’ll need to arrange for your own childcare.

I’m interested in leading a small group. What should I do?

We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the blessing of being connected in a small group. New groups need new leaders, so thanks for your interest! Your first step is to complete our online small group leader application by clicking HERE. Once completed, someone from our Community Life ministry team will be in touch with you.

I’m interested in hosting a small group. What should I do?

We want to see small groups gather in homes all throughout the Finger Lakes region, and that won’t happen without hosts like you. Your first step is to complete our online small group host application by clicking HERE. Once completed, someone from our Community Life ministry team will be in touch with you.

Wait . . . what’s the difference between leading and hosting?

Good question! We make every effort to care for and equip the ministry partners here at Crosswinds. One way we do that with small groups is by dividing the role of leader and host. A small group leader facilitates discussion, guides the group gatherings throughout the year, and is the point person between the group and Community Life pastor. A small group host opens up their home for a group and provides a safe, clean environment for the weekly gatherings.

How do I join a group?

If you think you’re ready to check out a small group then begin by browsing the available groups listed below. You’ll see who leads and/or hosts the group, what town the home is in, when the group meets, a brief leader bio, and the groups childcare options. If you find one that suits your schedule then click on the “Sign Up For A Small Group Online” button below the list of groups. If a groups is full, it will not appear in the list to sign up for. Complete and submit the form. Once you do that, the small group leader will be in touch. Please be aware that the size of each group is determined by the home they meet in. We try to limit group size to no more than 12 in order to create an environment that is conducive to relational growth and trust. But some groups can only accommodate less than 12 people. If a group is at capacity, we will do our best to help you find another group to join.
